Your Skin health by the decade

Every decade brings with it unique changes to our skin. You need to be sensitive to your skin’s needs and use the right products at every age.

Skin care is not only a women’s prerogative! Although, it isn’t the most popular subject for most men around the world, without question, men need to take care of their skin too. With all that’s shared here, be sure to also use a quality shaving cream, good razor and apply an aftershave with antioxidants daily.

 Your skin in the 20s..

  • Stress of teenage life, bad diet, lack of sleep are all reflected in your skin in this decade, resulting in your skin showing its first signs of ageing.
  • Residual spots of acne from your teens is also a concern.
  • By mid 20’s your skin starts becoming drier too.

 Skin rescue tips:

  • Start the daily ritual of cleanse, tone and moisturising followed with an application of a sunscreen and continue this ritual throughout the decades.
  • Use a soothing eye gel , through the day and also at night.
  • A light antioxidant moisturiser for the night is also recommended.

Skin in Your 30’s..

  • Collagen and elastin fibres, in the skin that keep it taut begin to weaken. Areas exposed to a lot of sun are the most affected.
  • Fine lines begin to appear under your eyes (sometimes referred to as crow’s-feet).
  • Skin looks a little dull and loses its freshness.
  • Brown freckles (solar lentigines) due to sun exposure in the past can also become obvious.

Skin rescue tips:

  • Cleanse your face daily with a PH balanced liquid cleanser (no bar soap)
  • Exfoliate skin with an exfoliant that contains AHA(Alpha Hydroxy acids) once a week.
  • Use a day & night moisturiser packed with antioxidants and also an eye gel.
  • A daily sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 is a must.

In Your 40’s..

  • More fine lines appear near the eyes and expression lines become more apparent and normal skin ageing becomes most apparent in this decade.
  • Brown age spots due to sun damage & hormonal changes in women may appear.

Skin rescue tips:

  • Exfoliate your skin 2 times a week.
  • Protect your skin with SPF 30 each day.
  • Invest in a good serum to help soothe lines and stimulate collagen fibres.
  • Anti-ageing day & night creams which have retinol and Vitamin C along with other antioxidants are needed.
  • Serum’s to even skin tone and pigmentation can be used.
  • Invest in a good eye care product as the eye contour is the most affected by age.

The 50’s & Beyond..

  • In this decade, due to menopause a women’s skin loses elasticity, firmness and becomes very dry.
  • Men are most affected by sun damage, resulting in very uneven skin tones.
  • Wrinkles for both men and women become more prominent.

Skin rescue tips:

  • Exfoliate at least two to three times a week to help remove dead cells and rejuvenate the skin underneath.
  • Address hydration by using a deep moisturising facial mask after exfoliating.
