My Ageless Lifestyle inspo is Sophia Loren who said
“There Is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to
your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source,
you will truly have defeated age.”
Mankind throughout history and cultures has been obsessed with the preservation of
youth. There was a strong belief in the Fountain of Youth whose magical springs
could stop aging; restore youth of anyone who drank or bathed in its waters.
Tales of such a fountain have been recounted across the world for thousands of years.
A 16th-century Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León was a man completely
obsessed with the Fountain of Youth. His quest for eternal life drove him and his
men through many suicide missions, for just a sip of this magical water.
So did Ponce ever find this Fountain?
Alas, he never did. Although if he had, he would still be alive and mankind would
have unraveled the secret of eternal youth.
In the 21 st century, although we may not risk our lives for youth, we still continue to
be consumed with our desire to turn back the clock of time.
We are driven by achievement, youth and beauty have taken centre stage as new
indicators for social worth. It’s hardly surprising then, that youth is valued more than
age and life’s enriching experiences; causing people to dread ageing.
“For some reason, our society is very obsessed with pointing out negative aspects of
aging,” says Susan Whitbourne, PhD, professor of psychology at the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst. She is also the past president of the American
Psychological Association’s Division on ageing.
Lets then accept our inevitable ‘Ageing’ with a renewed sense of respect and
positivity. Hollywood Actress Sharon Stone at 55 is still absolutely gorgeous and its
all about her amazing attitude and perception of ageing. She says, “I can’t tell you
how many doctors try to sell me a facelift. I’ve even gone as far as having someone
talk me into it, but when I went over and looked at pictures of myself, I thought ‘What
are they going to lift?’ . . Frankly, I think that in the art of ageing well there’s this
sexuality to having those imperfections. It’s sensual.”
Then there’s John Glen(93) former United States Senator. As the oldest person to
board a U.S. Space Shuttle at age 77, he exemplified the view that we shouldn’t let
age define us.
The calendar is a useful way to let you know the date, but if you let
yourself be hemmed in by your chronological age, you may lock yourself out of
potentially valuable opportunities. Agree don’t you??
