Antibiotics – do’s and don’ts

A “Naturally” healthy lifestyle can help prevent medicine dependence. Afterall, “Prevention” is always better than “Cure”!

Recently, The Times of India- Mumbai carried an article on “Antibiotic’ resistance.

This is indeed worrisome as it is also one of the biggest threats to global health, food security, and development today as stated by the World Health Organization.

Antibiotics, as we all know, are used to prevent and treat bacterial infections.

However, sometimes “Antibiotic resistance” occurs when bacteria become antibiotic resistant as they might change in response to the recurrent use of these medicines. The problem is serious when these bacteria infect humans to cause infections that may be harder to treat than those caused by non-resistant bacteria.

According to WHO, to prevent and control the spread of Antibiotic Resistance, people can:

  1. Use antibiotics only prescribed by a doctor
  2. Never purchase antibiotics without a prescription from a doctor
  3. Never share or use leftover antibiotics.
  4. Hygiene is imperative and to prevent infections, regularly wash hands, avoid close contact with sick people, practice safe sex and keeping vaccinations up to date.
  5. Prepare food hygienically, following the WHO Five Keys to Safer Food. (keep clean, separate raw and cooked, cook thoroughly, keep food at safe temperatures, use safe water and raw materials)
  6. Choose foods that have been produced without the use of antibiotics for growth promotion or disease prevention in healthy animals.

Stay naturally healthy! Stay Ageless!
